District Council 38 includes the Painters' Union Local 138, the Glaziers' Union Local 1527, the Drywall Finishers' Union Local 2009, and the Lathers and Allied Trades Local 163. These locals have all joined together under District Council 38 to provide more efficient and cost-effective services to our members.
District Council 38 is part of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, formed in 1887 and based in Washington, D.C. The International has a membership of 140,000 in 28 district councils and 411 locals in Canada and the U.S.

We are affiliated with the BC Federation of Labour. Our District Council is also affiliated with many industry associations that promote new technologies and better and safer workplaces for all workers.
Our training centre, the Finishing Trades Institute of BC provides training and upgrading for our members and offers apprenticeships in Painting, Glazing, Drywall Finishing, and lathing.
The council's newsletter, the Chronicle, provides important information about our members and the industry, throughout B.C.
