WHO WE ARE
DC38 is a dynamic union representing over 2,400 finishing trades professionals in painting, glazing, drywall finishing, lathing, and allied trades throughout B.C.
We are a part of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, and include Painters’ Union Local 138, Glaziers’ Union Local 1527, Drywall Finishers’ Union Local 2009, and Lathers and Allied Trades Local 163.
DC38 members can be found on commercial and industrial job sites throughout the province. Our painters and decorators select, prepare and apply paint to the interior and exterior of buildings, and structures such as bridges, pipelines, dams, machinery, and industrial complexes.
Our glazier members fabricate, repair, install, and service many types of commercial and residential glazing systems. Glaziers also fabricate, service, repair and install several types of doors, and specialize in building envelope.
Drywall tapers and finishers prepare and finish gypsum wallboard surfaces by taping, spotting, pointing, filling, finishing, and sanding all field surfaces such as joints, angles, and internal and external corners.
Lathers, or interior systems mechanics, are responsible for installing, handling, erecting and applying materials that are component parts in the construction of ceilings and walls.
Hazardous materials workers perform a variety of tasks related to the removal or safe handling of asbestos and other hazardous materials in conjunction with building maintenance, renovation, or demolition. Assignments may include residential, commercial, institutional, industrial, or marine projects, at a variety of locations.
DC38 also runs the Finishing Trades Institute of BC, which is a state-of-the-art, 26,000 sq. ft facility located in Surrey. Here we provide training and upgrading for our members at no cost. FTI also offers apprenticeships in painting, glazing, drywall finishing, and lathing. For more information about FTI, please visit the FTI website. |
