I am deeply saddened by the passing of our contractor and friend Ron Abbott last Friday.

In April of 1997, As the newly elected Glazier's business rep, I recall walking into the office of Team Glass and meeting Ron Abbott for the first time. I was immediately struck by Ron's good sense of humour and the gracious and welcoming manner in which he treated me. I was also impressed with Ron's love of the Glazing industry and the value he placed on doing only the highest quality of work with the most skilled people in the industry.

In the nearly fifteen years since that first meeting, Ron has always been that same welcoming, honest, and good natured guy I've come to respect and appreciate. I will miss Ron's comical and upbeat phone calls that I used to get out of the blue and I will also miss his honest assessment of how we were doing as an industry and as a Union on behalf of his employees.

Today would have been Ron's sixty-first birthday. Today we have lost one of the really good guys in this business way before he should have left us. Ron left an indelible mark on this industry and we are all better off for having known him.

A memorial for Ron Abbott is being held on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. at the Executive Plaza Hotel in Coquitlam.
