Pension Plan
Members of District Council 38 are covered by the Painters and Allied Trades International Union and Industry Pension Plan (Canada). The plan was established to provide retirement benefits for employees covered under collective bargaining agreements between employers and the union.
Contributions are made on behalf of employees working under the terms of an agreement. Employees are not required (or permitted) to make any contributions. The amount per hour contributed is dependent on the amount the union is able to negotiate with individual employers. Currently, contribution rates range from 25¢ to $2.50 per hour for our members.
The plan is registered with the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, under the Pension Benefits Act and with Canada Customs and Revenue Agency (formerly Revenue Canada) under the Income Tax Act.
The plan is administered by a board of trustees consisting of union and employer representatives. They are volunteers and responsible for the overall operation of the plan. The plan is managed by a fund administrator appointed by the board of trustees. Records and benefit payments are processed at the fund office in Washington, D.C. |
