For the second year in a row, DC38 members and staff came together to run or walk in the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay at Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby on June 19 and 20. We helped raise over $6,000 for the cause.
Unlike most relays, where the race takes place during the day, the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay takes place over a full 24 hours. With over 50 team members, our team completed all 24 hours of the race, which means running day and night.
As a result of all our fundraising, we won an award for being the team with the most money submitted before noon on the day of the race. We also won an award for having the best team t-shirt, as chosen by the campers themselves.
In total, the Easter Seals 24 Hour Relay raised $1,323,511. The money goes towards sending 800 B.C. children with varying degrees of physical and mental disabilities to summer camp for one week.
It’s an opportunity for these kids to have fun, meet new friends, and experience activities that would normally prove to be too challenging outside the specially designed Easter Seals campgrounds. The kids have a great time. |
